SocialWorks’ 3rd Annual Black History Month Film Festival kicks off February 1st! This year we’re kicking it off with a celebration – including special SocialWorks Black History Month merchandise, complimentary popcorn, and soft drinks, and for those of age complimentary cocktails provided by Crown Royal.

For the month of February, we’re featuring our favorite Black movies like Hollywood Shuffle with Robert Townsend, Set It Off with Jada Pinkett and Queen Latifah, Akeelah and the Bee, and Oscar Award-Winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, just to name a few.

The final day concludes highlighting some of the best young indie Chicago and Mid-Western filmmakers. Included this year are films Sugar Hill, Brothers from the Suburbs, The CTA project, and Present Tense. Be sure to come March 1st for a panel of the young filmmakers on their inspiration, advice, and what’s next!
