SocialWorks’ November 2023 Volunteer Opportunities
SocialWorks needs your help with upcoming events! We’ll be preparing students to go back to school, celebrating OpenMike students in various ways, and providing those in need with a Taste of Chicago experience. Learn more information below and we hope to see you soon!
Dates:
Saturday, November 11th: 11:00am – 1pm – Christmas Around the World Tree Decorating
- Location: Museum of Science and Industry • 5700 S DuSable Lk Shr Dr, Chicago, IL 60637
- Volunteers should be prepared to help decorate SocialWorks’ Christmas Tree at the Museum of Science and Industry
- Volunteer Registration Deadline: Thursday, November 9th at 5pm
- Location: Discover Customer Care Center • 8560 S. Cottage Grove, Chicago, IL
- Volunteers should be prepared to joyfully help pass out 2500 turkeys plus grocery gift cards to community members in attendance. Breakdown of boxes, loading off pallets and additional minimal lifting may be required as well.
- Volunteer Registration Deadline: Thursday, November 16th at 5pm
Sunday, November 19th: 12pm – 3:30pm – OpenMike
- Location: Wndr Museum • 1130 W Monroe St, Chicago, IL 60607
- Volunteers should be prepared to welcome and exalt young people; encouraging them to connect, express, and network.
- Volunteer Registration Deadline: Thursday, November 16th at 5pm
- Location(s): Columbus Park District • 500 S Central Ave, Chicago, IL 60644 & Chicago Family & Support Services • 10 S Kedzie Ave, Chicago, IL 60612
- Volunteers should be prepared to assist the SocialWorks team move the Warmest Winter Donations from our old storage facility to our new storage home! Volunteers will be split between the 2 locations listed above. Please select your preferred location below and we will do our best to accommodate!
- Volunteer Registration Deadline: Thursday, November 16th at 5pm
- Location: Chicago Family & Support Services • 10 S Kedzie Ave, Chicago, IL 60612
- Volunteers should be prepared to giveback on Giving Tuesday by organizing + setting up the new “Warmest Winter Community Store” and Storage unit. This includes but is not limited to hanging clothes on racks and folding clothes and placing on shelves, sorting through donated items, counting items, etc. Volunteers may also be asked to help pass out donations to those in need as well as help with serving food.
- Volunteer Registration Deadline: Wednesday, November 22nd at 5pm
If selected, you will receive a follow-up email with your confirmed time-slot and date no later than 24hrs after the volunteer registration deadline! We suggest adding HOLD’s on your calendars for the volunteer opportunity you selected to ensure you remember the pertinent information ahead of receiving the confirmation email from our team.
