This week, The TRiiBE released its inaugural coffee table book, The TRiiBE Guide 2019, powered by Wintrust Bank, to enhance the social and cultural experiences of Black folks across the Chicagoland area. The book features select articles from thetriibe.com, listicles about Black-friendly businesses in Chicago and more.

Chicago is a historically segregated city. And it’s no secret that Black Chicagoans often feel the brunt of systemic inequities and harsh narratives designed to starve us out of the city. The TRiiBE Guide 2019 is an extension of our mission to reshape the narrative by celebrating each and every thing Black Chicagoans contribute to the cultural identity of this city.

“If you don’t venture outside of your comfort zone, it’s easy to say that this city doesn’t have anything to offer Black folks,” says Morgan Elise Johnson, creative director of The TRiiBE. “Chicago is one of the greatest cities in the world but we need to take advantage of what we have and explore our city. We decided to address the segregation, gentrification and disparities our communities face by uplifting businesses and curators who are building community here — giving them the visibility they deserve.”

The TRiiBE Guide 2019 also shines a light of other Black creatives in Chicago who are working tirelessly to uplift and unify their communities through journalism, music, film, poetry, art, activism and more. On the cover and inside cover pages, these brilliant minds are featured in the #TRIIBEMOB photo shoot which pays homage to the legacy of Black art and activism in Chicago.

Free copies of The TRiiBE Guide 2019 are available at partnering distribution locations across Chicago for a limited time only. A digital version of The TRiiBE Guide 2019 also is available on thetriibe.com. Click here for more details: https://thetriibe.com/the-triibe-guide-to-black-chicago/
