Last year we released the Chicago Playlist– a literacy learning tool that uses hiphop to educate. We added all of our favorite Chicago artists, Chance, Saba, Herbo, Lupe, Jamila, Ye, Common, Durkio, Twista, Mick Jenkins, Crucial Conflict, and so much more. It went all over the country. For us, the Chicago Playlist is to show students that academic excellence is already within their means. Much of what they need to know lies within music and culture in which they are already expert! There were 1,000 members and a large number of cities, schools and districts which took part in the program.

Cities in which The Chicago Learning Playlist was used include;

  • Chicago, IL
  • Phoenix, AZ
  • Clovis, NM
  • Hendersonville, NC
  • New York City, NY

  • Sacramento, CA
  • Arlington, TX

Austin Martin, founder & CEO of Rhymes with Reason Did a great video interview with a teacher that had great success with Rhymes with Reason’s Chicago’s Playlist via SocialWorks last year.

Check it out in 4 parts below:

Rhymes with Reason and SocialWorks brought literacy building via hip-hop to students in Chicago and nationwide. We had the opportunity to share our story with media outlets such as ABC7 and Power 92 Chicago. We are looking forward to and can’t wait to take Rhymes with Reason forward and continue to grow. As well as making sure it continues to help students, teachers and communities grow.

Make sure to check out Rhymes with Reason and  let us know the artists, genres, songs  and more you’d like to see on our next playlist!
