SocialWorks, Gyrls in the H.O.O.D, and Taste for the Homeless Partner to Distribute 1,500 Food Boxes & Pints of Ice Cream During the Holiday Weekend

The rising cost of food continues to force Chicago families to make hard choices at the
grocery store register. A collective of local organizations is leveraging resources to
ensure South Side residents have access to food over the holiday weekend and during
this time of great need.

For the second year in a row, a coalition of organizations is hosting a family-friendly food
giveaway in the parking lot of the Discover customer care center in Chicago’s Chatham
community. Organized by Discover and Conscious Alliance, local residents are invited to
drive-thru or walk up to the parking lot event where quality hams, food and gift cards will
be distributed free of charge.

The event will take place at 8560 S. Cottage Grove, Chicago, IL, 60619 in the main parking lot
on Saturday, April 16, 2022 from 9:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M.* The event will feature costumed entertainers, free plants, and free pints of Ben & Jerry’s® “Mint Chocolate Chance” ice cream created in partnership with Chatham’s own, Chance the Rapper.
